✧ how i stay productive during summer break (while still having fun!) ✧
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hey lovelies! ✨
summer break is finally here and honestly? it's my favorite time to both relax and get things done. i know that sounds contradictory but trust me, finding that sweet balance between productivity and fun is totally possible! after years of either doing absolutely nothing or burning myself out, i've finally found my perfect summer rhythm.
first things first: the morning routine ✨
i've learned that my day flows so much better when i start it intentionally. i wake up around 8 or 9 (not too early because we deserve some extra sleep!), make my bed immediately (small win!), and spend 15 minutes journaling before checking my phone. this tiny habit has literally changed everything for me.
my summer morning essentials:
iced coffee with oat milk and a tiny bit of vanilla
a cute journal that makes me excited to write in it
10 minutes of stretching by my window
a super quick skincare routine (sunscreen is non-negotiable!)
creating a flexible structure 🤍
the secret to summer productivity is having just enough structure without feeling trapped. i divide my days into three parts:
morning: productive focus time (2-3 hours max) afternoon: flexible time for errands, friends, or projects evening: pure relaxation and fun
this way, i never feel like i'm missing out or falling behind. the key is being realistic about what you can actually accomplish in a day. i used to make these impossible to-do lists and then feel awful when i couldn't finish them.
my productivity non-negotiables:
i always make sure to do at least one productive thing each day, even if it's small. some of my favorites:
reading 20 pages of a book
organizing one small area of my room
working on a creative project for 30 minutes
learning something new for my blog
planning content or taking photos
balancing productivity with summer fun ✨
here's my little secret: schedule your fun just like you schedule your work! this sounds silly but it actually helps me look forward to both. some of my favorite summer activities that feel refreshing but don't derail my productivity:
morning walks with an audiobook
afternoon picnics where i can also read or brainstorm
coffee shop work dates with friends
sunset swims after a productive day
weekend day trips that recharge my creativity
my favorite productivity tools:
a paper planner (something about writing things down just works better for me)
the forest app to stay off my phone when focusing
aesthetic notion templates for organizing my projects
time blocking in my calendar with cute colors
lo-fi summer playlists that help me concentrate
remembering the why 🤍
summer isn't just about getting things done or having the perfect instagram moments. it's about growing, reflecting, and creating memories that will make you smile in december when it's freezing outside. productivity should support your joy, not replace it!
i've found that my happiest summer days are when i accomplish something meaningful in the morning and then have the freedom to be spontaneous in the afternoon and evening. balance isn't perfect every day, and that's okay too.
what are your favorite ways to stay productive during summer break? i'd love to hear your tips too!
xoxo, mindy 🤍

To whom it may concern,
Just a suggestion, or gentle recommendation, but if you're writing code for a scientific study of any kind, maybe consider, possibly, limiting the number of swear words in said code because now many journals now require you to have your code publicly available in order to publish and if that's the case, then you'll have to spend many hours editing out all the swear words you put into your code or risk getting rejected by the journal that you already payed way too much money to in order to submit your paper.
Sincerely,
The scientist currently cursing her past code-writing self.

Welcome to the Journalist!
I decided to open this blog because I love to manifest. It makes me feel grateful for what I have and for what I could have in the future. I've been exploring various methods to shift, and I thought, why not share them with others? (Plus, I might sprinkle in a little witchcraft here and there that helps with manifestation.)
With so many methods out there today, I realized it would be helpful to have a blog that explains them in a clear and concise way—without the overstimulation of a 6-second video.
When I searched for resources, I found that many blogs just didn’t meet my needs for several reasons:
They only covered the most popular methods.
Some explanations weren’t detailed enough for my ADHD brain.
And honestly, some hadn’t been updated since 1618.
That's why I'm here—to be the resource I couldn’t find.
Masterlist Methods
I made this master list so you all can see what methods I talked about already and the connection between them.

I am a former 4chan user. 4chan was recently upended. Here are some statements (that I believe as fact) that you may find helpful.
-4chan was to some degree, a CIA honeypot
-It is(was) the most prolific meme factory of the internet. Even if you never cared for that site, this will affect internet culture for years. If internet memes were cars, this is like if Toyota and Honda went out of business on the same day.
-The last words uttered on 4chan were "Chicken Jockey"
-Tumblr could be imagined as batman, and 4chan as the joker. After the joker went to prison, Batman sat on his ass for seven years until Bane came along. Use this info as you please.
-Your next new internet friend that you make could very well be a 4chan refugee. Please be patient with them.
-Many of the users had been feeling stockholm syndrome for years. Others loathed the fact that they used the site. It's an infectious magnetic place.
-It's pretty funny how this was done by former users of the site that had become radicalized by the jannies and mods. It was a long time coming.
-People on tumblr seem to be overestimating how upset 4chan users are about the site going away. 4chan users know 4chan is a cesspool better than anybody else.
-The info of the mods and jannies were leaked while the site's users were not.

[ID: a cover image for a game. large brown text says "bagel, lox, golem talks" and smaller text says "a for truth's sake SRD solo-journaling game". the background is a faded photo of houses in a village. there are white stars, an eye with wings, a kippah with a star of david, and a golem on the image. end ID]
Bubbie Blumenthal has a leaky roof again. The leviathan in the river keeps lying its head on the thatch to sleep. Rebbe Ezra has instructed his golem to scare the thing off, to no avail. It’s a stubborn beast, even if it does seem to have a soft spot for the schoolchildren who feed it latkes on the way back from learning Talmud.
All you know is that you’ll need a new notebook soon with how eager all the old zaydes are to chat your ear off after a little post-Shabbos wine. One glass in, and every one of them claims a dybbuk encounter that week. Well, it’s good material. You’ll figure out how true it is after it goes in your field notes!
Bagel, Lox, Golem Talks is a solo-journaling game where you travel to a magical Jewish shtetl in order to learn more about the community and write an ethnography on them.
Pull cards to ask questions of the residents, roll dice to see how well interactions go, and get to know a host of colorful characters from young mensches, to golems, to nephilim, to the community rabbi. Unlock 12 different locations and gain levels in friendship and familiarity with the community as you document more and more in your field notes.
You'll need: A d20, d12, and d8, and a deck of playing cards

Cleaned the bathroom today!
I cannot recommend a power scrubber that has an adjustable-reach handle enough to my fellow spoonies. I got the tub so clean and I just feel like I… I don’t know, folded some laundry?
Mine looks like this, if you aren’t sure what kind of tool I’m talking about:
Tumblr media
The handle is rechargeable and it just spins the brush head really fast so you can scrub your floors, tub, and shower without having to get on your hands and knees! (You can make a handheld one by getting a brush head and mounting it to a screw-bit and using a screwdriver as the motor, but this kind of gadget lets you reach things more easily.)

Gratitude Journal
My computer went kaput. My husband and I were planning to get a new one, but just couldn't find the time, so of course, inevitably, I got a copy editing assignment before I had gotten a new computer.
My husband managed to get one on Tuesday, but didn't have time to set it up or anything, which is a shame, because he can apparently build computers and whatnot. We've been married a dozen years and I just now learned that about him in the past couple months.
I'm fairly computer-illiterate. I mean, I can turn it on and use it, but setting things up, getting my monitors arranged, etc., I'm not the best. And unfortunately, I was unable to do a complete backup of my old computer before it went down, so not everything was in the right place.
My husband had work yesterday, but I needed to at least get started on the project, so I set to work plugging in the new computer and downloading all my things. One of my monitors had a weird cord that I thought was so unique that I might have to get a whole new fucking monitor because I'd be unable to find an adapter. I tried to work on my project with just one monitor, but unfortunately the one with the normal cord was my side monitor, and my chronic pain is such that if I'm looking sideways for any extended amount of time, I will have severe neck pain. So I decided to switch the places of my two monitors.
Easier said than done. My desk is covered with little pieces of paper, notes to myself, passwords for various patient portals and websites and payment portals, mementos from weddings, Christmas cards, etc. I got very overwhelmed because I couldn't decide where to put everything, how to sort it, how to put it away, and was starting to have a breakdown...
Tumblr media
But then I had a stroke of genius: I got a little tote bag and put all of the desk ephemera into it to deal with later. Then I was able to switch the monitors. (And it turned out I was able to sort all of the things sooner than I thought I would be, because my computer needed an update, natch.)
I tried working with just one monitor for a bit, but it was a struggle. I have documents that I reference while I'm copy editing, and switching back and forth between them on the same monitor was a pain in the ass and made it difficult to compare things. So I decided to see if maybe we had an old cord somewhere that was somehow miraculously the adapter that I needed. And miracle of miracles, in a ziplock bag labeled "old computer," I found one.
So I plugged in the additional monitor. But then I had to switch the monitors back for better outlet/ power strip efficiency, and after I did that, my mouse would no longer move between the two monitors. And then when I opened the display settings, the window opened on the monitor I couldn't access (mouse refused to move over), so I couldn't adjust the settings. And no amount of googling or scrolling Reddit was able to provide a solution for this specific problem.
Tumblr media
So I had another breakdown, but then just unplugged the problem monitor and that fixed it.
I'm extremely proud of myself. I've always had someone else manage the switch when I've upgraded computers, starting in roughly 2004 when I got my first laptop. I've never done it on my own. It took three hours probably, but fucking did it. I did it by myself. And I navigated two emotional breakdowns, plus found a solution the internet couldn't offer.
I was (am) exhausted, and after paring down the previous style sheet to suit the new manuscript, I only got about 10 pages into this 500-page book that's due back May 25th, but holy shit I achieved a lot. Badass alert over here.

Life hack: belance in yourself
Tumblr media
Hormones are powerful chemical messengers produced by glands in the endocrine system. They travel through the bloodstream, regulating various bodily functions such as growth, metabolism, reproduction, and mood. Hormones play a significant role in maintaining balance in the body, known as homeostasis, and any imbalance can affect your mental and physical well-being.
How Hormones Work
Production: Hormones are secreted by glands like the thyroid, adrenal glands, pancreas, and ovaries/testes.
Transport: Once produced, hormones travel through the bloodstream to target cells or organs.
Receptors: Hormones bind to specific receptors on cells, triggering a response. This can involve altering cell activity, gene expression, or initiating a cascade of processes.
Feedback Mechanism: The body monitors hormone levels using feedback loops. For example, if a hormone level is too high or low, the body adjusts production to maintain balance.
Key Hormones and Their Functions
Cortisol: Stress hormone; regulates metabolism, immune response, and energy.
Serotonin and Dopamine: Mood and happiness regulators; linked to emotional well-being.
Insulin: Manages blood sugar levels.
Estrogen and Testosterone: Sexual health, energy, and bone strength.
Thyroid Hormones: Control metabolism and energy levels.
Melatonin: Regulates sleep-wake cycles.
Adrenaline (Epinephrine): Prepares the body for fight or flight.
Tumblr media
How to Support Hormonal Health
To feel better mentally and physically, it’s essential to maintain hormonal balance. Here are strategies to care for your hormones:
1. Nutrition
Balanced Diet: Eat whole, unprocessed foods rich in nutrients.
Healthy Fats: Avocados, nuts, seeds, and omega-3s (from fish) support hormone production.
Complex Carbs: Whole grains and vegetables regulate insulin levels.
Protein: Essential for hormone production; include lean meats, beans, and tofu.
Avoid Excess Sugar and Refined Carbs: These can cause insulin spikes and crashes.
Hydration: Proper hydration supports cellular communication and detoxification.
2. Sleep
7-9 Hours of Quality Sleep: Hormone regulation (like melatonin and growth hormone) occurs during deep sleep.
Consistency: Go to bed and wake up at the same time daily.
Limit Screen Time Before Bed: Blue light can suppress melatonin.
3. Stress Management
Mindfulness Practices: Meditation, yoga, and deep breathing reduce cortisol levels.
Physical Activity: Exercise releases endorphins, improving mood and balancing stress hormones.
Journaling or Therapy: Helps process emotions, reducing chronic stress.
4. Exercise
Moderation: Both too much and too little exercise can disrupt hormones. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity most days.
Strength Training: Boosts testosterone and growth hormone.
Cardio: Supports circulation and reduces stress.
5. Avoid Endocrine Disruptors
Limit Toxins: Avoid products with BPA, phthalates, and parabens (found in plastics and cosmetics).
Clean Water: Use filtered water to avoid contaminants.
Organic Foods: Reduce pesticide exposure, which can disrupt hormones.
6. Maintain a Healthy Weight
Excess body fat can increase estrogen levels, while too little fat can disrupt reproductive hormones.
7. Regular Medical Check-Ups
Hormone Testing: Regular blood tests can identify imbalances early.
Thyroid and Reproductive Health: Monitor specific hormones like TSH, estrogen, and testosterone as needed.
8. Natural Supplements (Consult a Professional First)
Vitamin D: Supports mood and immune function.
Magnesium: Regulates stress and supports sleep.
Adaptogens: Herbs like ashwagandha and maca root can balance stress hormones.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Reduce inflammation and support brain health.
Signs of Hormonal Imbalance
If you're experiencing persistent symptoms, consider consulting a healthcare provider:
Fatigue
Mood swings or anxiety
Unexplained weight changes
Irregular periods
Sleep disturbances
Low libido
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Hormonal health is essential for overall well-being. By prioritizing proper nutrition, stress management, exercise, and regular medical care, you can support your endocrine system and feel better both mentally and physically.
